To accommodate projected 2035 traffic volumes in Houston, the US-290 reconstruction and expansion project is bringing new capacity to the freeway, with some portions of the project delivered to commuters almost 20 years early.

HNTB served the Texas Department of Transportation as program management consultant on the massive project that includes 15 miles of freeway reconstruction, 23 miles of freeway widening and a 10-mile extension of the high-occupancy vehicle lane.

The firm also oversaw design engineering teams and assisted with major, federal project requirements, project controls, public outreach, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocations and construction inspection support. All phases of the project started on time or ahead of schedule, bringing much-needed congestion relief to Houston’s busiest corridor.
