HNTB provided design and construction engineering services for the wet phase of the Kilgore Interceptor, which were part of the overall WPCF 2016 Treatment Upgrades for Muncie Sanitary District in Muncie, Indiana. The project is based upon the recommendations of the Basis of Design Report previously completed by HNTB. The WWPS design includes an 80 MGD submersible pump station, intake electrical building, piping and a diversion structure. The Kilgore Interceptor includes approximately 1,600 feet of 108-inch-diameter interceptor sewer and approximately 250 feet of 54-inch-diameter sewer, and 330 feet of 60-inch-diameter sewer and a cast-in-place junction structure which will connect to the existing South Side Interceptor.
HNTB was previously responsible for updating XPSWMM modeling of Muncie’s combined sewer system as part of its LTCP update. The modeling included reviewing various proposed improvement scenarios to evaluate the hydraulic impacts of proposed projects. One of the selected projects from the modeling and planning efforts was the Wet Weather Pump Station and Kilgore Interceptor. This project is a step in reducing the combined sewer overflows to the White River. The public will be able to enjoy the White River more frequently with less concern about pollutants after the projects are implemented.
