As Tennessee experiences significant population growth, the need to accommodate rising traffic demands becomes more pressing. To address the challenge, the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project, led by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), plays a crucial role in enhancing the region’s transportation infrastructure. The project will introduce managed price lanes called “Choice Lanes,” providing travelers with the option to pay a user fee for faster, more consistent travel speeds.
HNTB is the program manager on this alternative delivery program for TDOT, ensuring success from start to finish.
HNTB’s services on the project include:
- Program management
- Public-private partnership (P3) advisory
- Transportation and engineering services
- Environmental and planning expertise
- Traffic and construction support
Environmental Stewardship and ITS Safety Integration
In addition to engineering excellence, the project places a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. Through detailed assessments, efforts are made to minimize ecosystem impacts while ensuring full regulatory compliance. Beyond environmental considerations, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology will be integrated into the I-24 corridor, enabling real-time traffic management and significantly improving motorist safety.
Community Engagement and Equity Commitment
HNTB is actively supporting TDOT in conducting outreach efforts for the project by engaging with the community and prioritizing public input. The project aims to incorporate elements in the design that reflect the needs and priorities of local residents. The inclusive approach ensures the project addresses immediate infrastructure needs, fosters long-term regional growth and provides mobility equity that aligns with community interests.
