Mila Vega joins HNTB as a senior transit project manager

Seasoned infrastructure professional brings proven track record of overseeing capital programs to enhance and optimize regional transit services

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 25, 2023) Mila Vega has joined HNTB Corporation, a leading infrastructure solutions firm, as a senior transit project manager based in the firm’s Charleston office. Vega is an accomplished leader in the transit industry with 17 years of experience advancing all aspects of transportation and strategic initiatives to enhance and optimize regional transit services.

“Mila brings a high level of experience and expertise to HNTB that will be critical as we continue to deliver complex transit projects for clients across the Carolinas and elsewhere,” said Spencer Franklin, PE, HNTB Carolinas office leader and senior vice president. “Her profound understanding of bus rapid transit technology will undoubtedly be a significant asset, benefiting both our team and our valued clients.”

Prior to HNTB, Vega collaborated with various public agencies to drive the development of complex BRT projects, including the Wake BRT: New Bern Avenue in Raleigh, N.C. and North-South BRT in Chapel Hill, N.C. Her work extended to entities such as the City of Raleigh, Chapel Hill Transit, Orange County Government and the Capital District Transportation Authority.

Most recently, she served as the assistant vice president of planning and sustainability at the Jacksonville Transportation Authority. In this role, she spearheaded a dedicated team that prioritized the enhancement of regional transportation networks, the preservation of natural resources, and the promotion of sustainability when delivering capital or operating projects.

Vega earned a master’s degree in regional planning and a bachelor’s degree in urban studies and planning from the University at Albany, State University of New York. She is a member of the American Public Transportation Association and past legislative co-chair of the North Carolina Public Transportation Association.
