Lori Sand joins HNTB as transit planning director in Atlanta

Known for her expertise on transit planning projects in the region, Lori will advance the firm’s presence across the states of Georgia and Tennessee

ATLANTA (March 7, 2022) – Lori Sand, AICP, has joined HNTB as transit planning director and associate vice president. Based in Atlanta, Sand will play a key role in HNTB’s planning practice in Georgia and Tennessee by leveraging her career-long experience in working with clients across the state on a variety of transit projects to enhance mobility, connectivity and sustainability. In addition, Sand will continue to serve as a mentor to transit professionals and engage in retaining HNTB’s talent.

Sand’s expertise covers a broad range of areas, including land use planning, transit planning, transit general management, and fixed-route and demand response bus operations, furthering the mission at regional planning agencies, local governments, and local and regional transit systems.

“Lori’s knowledge of the transit needs across Georgia and specifically with her work at MARTA will be integral to our clients as they assess how to move forward in delivering on a historic level of investment in the state’s transportation network,” said Tim Morgan, PE, Atlanta office leader for HNTB.

Prior to joining HNTB, Sand was a senior project manager for another consulting firm. In that role, she directed client engagement in Georgia and performed project management for transit projects. Before that, she led transit planning initiatives for the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority, known as ATL and the Atlanta Regional Commission, known as ARC.

Sand is an active participant in a variety of professional associations, including the Georgia Transit Association and Women’s Transportation Seminar. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geography from Oklahoma State University.
