SBCTA recently opened the new 10-mile Express Lanes; HNTB provided PCM services
ONTARIO, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2024) – HNTB joins the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority in celebrating the recent opening of SB Express Lanes on Interstate 10 between I-15 and the Los Angeles/San Bernardino County line.
The project establishes the first express lanes facility in San Bernardino County, providing a reliable travel option for Metro Valley communities and regional travelers. The agency’s accomplishments on this project include two new express lanes in each direction; a new FasTrak customer service center in Rancho Cucamonga; a new SBCTA department focused on express lanes operations; a forward-thinking equity program that provides additional value to the community; and partnerships with Transportation Corridor Agencies and Caltrans to provide ongoing outstanding service to users.
HNTB, a leading infrastructure solutions firm, provided project management and construction management services on the project since it launched in 2017. In this PCM capacity, HNTB assisted with procuring a design-build contractor and a toll services provider, as well as overseeing the civil construction, tolling system development and testing, and organizational readiness activities.
“We extend our sincere congratulations to both SBCTA and Caltrans for successfully leading the SB Express Lanes project from inception to completion,” said Michelle Dippel, HNTB West Region president. “HNTB is proud to be a partner with SBCTA and celebrate the opening of the express lanes that enhance mobility for our rapidly growing region by reducing congestion and providing reliable travel time.”
According to Juan Uribe, PE, HNTB senior vice president and Orange County-Inland Empire office leader, collaboration among regional stakeholders was key to this successful completion. Shared insights and resources fostered advanced solutions, streamlined decision-making, and built public trust for the project’s long-term sustainability.
“Along with our PCM team partners, we take pride in delivering this innovative mobility option to San Bernardino County that will connect travelers with the important people and places in their lives,” said Uribe.
