Community Engagement

Partners in effective communication l  strategic support l  data-driven results.

Set public engagement and communication outreach trends instead of following them. By combining technical experts with digital excellence, HNTB delivers solutions that uniquely exemplify your agency’s or project’s core values with thoughtful, timely and accurate messaging.

A new best practice is a hybrid approach of in-person and virtual engagement to bring the most inclusive and data-driven processes for public and stakeholder involvement. From graphic design to virtual reality, we bring creative media and web-based solutions to simplify messages and translate complex technical concepts to all audiences.

Our strategic approach to public engagement and outreach is tailored to your project; we don’t believe in a one size fits all model. With increased transparency to encourage conversation and getting information earlier into constituent’s hands, we enhance your reputation as open, accessible and proactive.

Harnessing the power of data and performance metrics, we recommend outreach methods and tools to garner the best return on investment. Our team of experts can also help with advanced equity and community analytics, including dedicated platforms and frameworks.

  1. The purpose of the Innovate Mound 601 community open house presentation video was to provide a comprehensive overview for stakeholders and the public on the status of the project and planned project improvements. For this open house style public meeting, the public engagement team developed an accessible presentation with voice over audio and closed captions that looped repeatedly for the public to view at their convenience during the event and also a version that would be accessible for all online viewers. The video is now hosted on YouTube and the Innovate Mound project website for the public to access at any time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMNdZ0B7p1I&t=3s

2. The Innovate Mound project website provides current construction information, including an up-to-date construction schedule, projected vehicle travel times, project background, a quarterly newsletter, press releases, and project team contact information. HNTB, in partnership with Hoyden Creative, ensures that the website is updated regularly with lane closures and traffic information and, as needed with valuable resources for local businesses and community stakeholders. https://innovatemound.org/

3. Public Act 140 of 2020 required the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to complete a statewide toll study to determine the feasibility of converting existing highways to toll roads to generate a new revenue stream for reconstruction and maintenance. For the Michigan Statewide Tolling Study website developed by HNTB, the first phase focused on a platform to provide education on tolling which is new to Michigan. The second and current phase of the website provides an overview of the feasibility study findings, frequently asked questions, and next steps were communicated on the study website. https://mitollingstudy.com/

4. HNTB developed concept videos of design alternatives for the I-375 Reconnecting Communities Project. The concept videos exhibited a virtual tour of the corridor visualizing how the project design alternative will look at completion. This allows MDOT to communicate to stakeholders and the public how they will travel on the new roadway that is transitioning from a 1-mile freeway to an at-grade boulevard with a new I-75 interchange. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnw95w_o1ozYOqyaBrG39h7M3XMmqGhQo
