SuperLoop Rapid Bus System

SuperLoop provides frequent, high-speed bus service in San Diego’s North University City

•    Four agencies collaborate to deliver project
•    Phase 2 plans move from 65-percent design to final design in under three months
•    Ridership consistently exceeds expectationsHNTB delivered architectural and civil final design for eight new bus rapid transit stations on San Diego’s new SuperLoop rapid bus system line.

Led by the San Diego Association of Governments, the project is a partnership of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, the city of San Diego and the University of California – San Diego.

HNTB responded to the project’s aggressive schedule, delivering plans and specifications within the milestone deadlines, taking the project from 65-percent design to final design in just under three months.

Located in North University City, where traffic congestion is commonplace, SuperLoop includes priority traffic treatments. Signal prioritization and roadway improvements allow buses to move through traffic efficiently to maintain reliable service. Ridership is consistently exceeding expectations.

The first two phases of the project are operating and when phase 3 is completed, SuperLoop will be an 8-mile loop with 26 upgraded stations.
