Smart design boosts safety while beautifully linking San Francisco to the North Bay
• New construction boosts seismic and traffic safety
• Design creates spectacular gateway to the heart of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area
• Design-build project marks California’s first P3 transportation initiative
HNTB served as lead designer and provided construction design services for Phase II of the design-build Presidio Parkway Project, which links San Francisco to the North Bay in the heart of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
The firm designed three cut-and-cover tunnels, seven bridges, the High Viaduct and the Girard Road interchange.
The project — a joint endeavor of Caltrans, San Francisco County Transportation Authority and Golden Link Partners — is the first public-private partnership transportation project delivered in California. It boosts seismic and traffic safety by replacing Doyle Drive, which creates a spectacular regional gateway between the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.
