Recognizing the potential of artificial intelligence to transform how the agency operates, the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) engaged HNTB to lead an AI Assessment and Strategic Recommendations initiative. The effort evaluated TCA’s current challenges and opportunities, explored AI solutions and identified practical pathways to improve operational efficiency, elevate staff performance, enhance safety and support ongoing strategic goals.
A key component of the work focused on understanding the human factors influencing AI adoption across the organization. HNTB developed an intentional, people-centered approach to help identify internal challenges and enable each department to recognize the value of integrating AI into their day-to-day business practices. This approach ensured the initiative extended beyond a technical assessment, supporting meaningful organizational alignment and long-term success.
HNTB partnered with TCA to establish a framework for AI readiness across several key dimensions, including opportunity discovery; data management and governance; IT foundations; security, risk and privacy considerations and enterprise adoption. The effort also resulted in the prioritization of near-term AI use cases to help guide early implementation and demonstrate value. By combining sound technology planning with structured change management strategies, the initiative positions TCA to build scalable, reliable AI infrastructure that aligns with broader business improvement goals and supports sustained innovation.
