USC opens Bloom Football Performance Center designed by HNTB

New 160,000-square-foot home for USC Football integrates training, recovery, wellness and team operations

LOS ANGELES (August 6, 2026) — HNTB joins the University of Southern California (USC) in celebrating the opening of the Bloom Football Performance Center, a new three-story home for USC Football designed by HNTB to support the holistic development of the student-athlete.

The 160,000-square-foot facility serves as the central operations hub for USC Football, bringing training, recovery, nutrition, sports medicine, meeting spaces, creative production, recruiting and staff offices into one integrated environment.

Developed as USC enters a new era of competition in the Big Ten Conference, the facility more than doubles the football program’s previous space while creating a dedicated home for daily performance, preparation and team connection.

The project is organized around the idea that healthy buildings help support healthy athletes. Anticipated to achieve LEED Platinum, the facility is designed to optimize building performance while supporting athlete performance through daylight, natural airflow, outdoor connections, biophilic design and strategically coordinated adjacencies between training, recovery and nutrition.

“The Bloom Football Performance Center was designed around the daily rhythm of USC Football,” said David Graue, project manager at HNTB. “All spaces, from the weight room to sports medicine to recovery and nutrition, were organized to help student-athletes and staff move through the building efficiently and intuitively. This new facility will support how the program trains, prepares, recovers and grows for many years to come.”

Designed Around the Athlete’s Daily Rhythm

The relationship between indoor and outdoor training served as a guiding logic to the design. The weight room features an operable glass wall that opens toward the practice fields, allowing athletes to move seamlessly between field drills and strength training. A nearby fuel zone provides immediate access to recovery nutrition, reinforcing the connection between training, refueling and recovery.

The sports medicine suite also connects directly to the practice fields and includes treatment, taping, active rehabilitation and hydrotherapy areas. Recovery spaces include hot and cold plunge pools, hydromassage, sleep pods, a saltwater float tank, submerged treadmill and light therapy rooms, creating restorative environments within a building otherwise defined by energy and intensity.

Supporting Student-Athlete Health and Wellness

Throughout the facility, natural light, planted elements, outdoor terraces and views of the practice fields connect athletes and staff to the Southern California climate. Clerestory windows over the central player’s atrium bring daylight into the building across all three levels, while green walls, warm materials and outdoor gathering spaces support a broader wellness-focused environment.

“We wanted the building to perform as more than a training facility,” said Devina Parbhoo, project architect at HNTB. “The atrium, field views, outdoor terraces and biophilic elements give the facility a sense of orientation, openness and relief, which is especially important in a high-intensity sports environment. Those design decisions help turn the building into a daily home for athletes and staff.”

Honoring Trojan Tradition While Looking Forward

The interiors balance USC’s history with the needs of a contemporary football program. A 30-foot-tall lobby celebrates the program’s legacy through immersive technology, impact graphics and trophy displays. The locker room is designed for 130 players and includes custom ventilated lockers, integrated storage and direct access to recovery amenities.

The facility also includes a two-story team meeting room, position meeting rooms, player lounges, creative media production spaces and recruiting areas designed to support film review, strategy, content creation, NIL opportunities and the recruiting experience.

“USC Football carries a history, expectation and standard that few programs in college athletics can match,” said Jeff Fucci, Senior Associate Athletic Director at USC. “The Bloom Football Performance Center was designed not only to meet that standard today, but to anticipate where college athletics is going. It provides our student-athletes, coaches and staff with a world-class environment built to adapt, evolve and position USC to lead in the new era of college athletics.”

By integrating performance, wellness, operations and tradition, the Bloom Football Performance Center gives USC Football a new home designed for the next era of the program.
