Syrees Gillens Oliver joins HNTB as public engagement and communications leader

Former SCDOT public involvement director to focus on supporting the firm’s growth

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 21, 2024) – Syrees Gillens Oliver has joined HNTB as a public engagement and communications leader, bringing more than 25 years of significant stakeholder engagement, public involvement and state government experience to advance local transportation projects and programs. In her new role, Oliver will support HNTB’s project delivery with a focus on supporting the firm’s growth through industry engagement and client relationships.

Prior to HNTB, Oliver had a diverse and extensive career at the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Most recently, she served as the public involvement director where she was responsible for directing and managing SCDOT’s public involvement program for planning and project development. Additionally, she held positions as the disadvantaged business enterprise program manager and the affirmative action officer.

Oliver was honored with the 2018 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ Civil Rights Trailblazer Award. She is also a graduate of SCDOT’s 2019 Leadership and Educational Development Program and a graduate of the South Carolina Certified Public Manager Program. Oliver earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Benedict College and a Master of Business Management from Webster University.
