Award recognizes transportation engineer for outstanding leadership and lasting contributions to ASHE and the infrastructure industry

LAKE MARY, Fla. (April 29, 2025) – HNTB has announced that Laura Campos, PE, East Florida drainage department manager at HNTB, has been named the 2025 National Member of the Year by the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE). ASHE provides a forum for members and partners of the highway industry to promote a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system through education, innovation and fellowship.

This award recognizes an ASHE member who has made a lasting and meaningful contribution to the organization over the past year. Campos’ recognition is a testament to her exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and the significant impact she has made on the ASHE Central Florida Section.

“We are thrilled to see Laura recognized for her remarkable efforts,” said George Gilhooley, PE, HNTB’s East Florida office leader and senior vice president. “Laura’s achievement reflects both her professional excellence and her commitment to building a stronger, more connected infrastructure community.”

Throughout the year, Campos has played a pivotal role in driving ASHE’s mission forward. Her contributions include spearheading strategic initiatives, leading successful events and expanding community outreach efforts that have elevated both member engagement and industry collaboration. Her dedication to fostering professional development and her passion for advancing the transportation engineering profession have left a lasting impression on her peers and the broader ASHE community.

“I’m incredibly honored and grateful for this recognition,” states Campos. “ASHE has truly played a pivotal role in my professional journey. I’m so thankful to be part of such an inspiring community.”

Campos has been an active member of the ASHE Central Florida Section for over eight years, serving in numerous leadership roles including president (2022–2024), past president, and as a long-standing section board member since 2017. Her efforts have been instrumental in driving membership growth, fostering young professional engagement and sustaining key programs like Transportation Thursday. Most recently, she has focused on mentoring new leaders and supporting major events such as the Holiday Banquet and the Transportation Summit. Her dedication and enthusiasm continue to leave a lasting impact on the organization.

Campos’ passion for transportation inspired her to specialize in highway drainage and stormwater management. She has more than 12 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering in the design of roadway projects including resurfacing, reconstruction and large-scale design build and conventional projects. Based in HNTB’s Lake Mary office, Campos leads the drainage department, overseeing complex infrastructure projects and guiding a team of engineers.

“Laura’s relentless commitment has strengthened ASHE Central Florida’s presence, expanded industry partnerships, and reinforced the organization’s mission of education, networking and community engagement,” said Sherman Klaus, ASHE President of Central Florida, Southeast Region. “Her vision, passion, and influence continue to shape the future of ASHE and the transportation industry.”

ASHE will recognize Laura Campos during the 2025 ASHE National Conference, held June 4–8, 2025, at the Kalahari Resort in Pocono Manor, Pennsylvania.
