Former FDOT project manager to drive sustainable, innovative solutions across Florida
LAKE MARY, Fla. (Jan. 21, 2026) – Jason Sutton, PLA, ISA has joined HNTB as landscape architect team lead in the firm’s East Florida office. In this role, Sutton will work with clients and partners across Florida to deliver high-quality design solutions, while mentoring staff and promoting collaborative, client-focused outcomes.
Sutton brings more than 23 years of experience in landscape architecture, including 18 years working with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) focusing on transportation landscape architecture projects. He has served as project manager and professional of record for multiple FDOT districtwide landscape design contracts, successfully delivering dozens of projects across Florida. His expertise spans project management, design leadership and regulatory compliance, enabling innovative, sustainable and buildable solutions for complex transportation corridors.

Throughout his career, Sutton has led transformative projects that enhance transportation corridors and create welcoming gateways for communities.
Notable projects include:
- SR 91 and SR 50 Interchange Landscape — Developed a design concept blending native vegetation with new plantings to create a sense of arrival into Central Florida.
- Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) Aesthetic Guidelines — Developed a systemwide aesthetic guideline document alongside FTE leadership that focuses on transportation development and facilities that are functional, innovative and visually appealing.
- SR 570 and Pace Road Interchange Landscape — Delivered a gateway design for Florida Polytechnic University that creates a sense of arrival, featuring flowering trees in university colors.
- SunTrax Visioning — Created innovative entry road concepts and a design criteria package for the entry road, which included landscape, hardscape and branding elements, such as gateway signage and a roundabout “X” sculpture.

A graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in landscape architecture and a minor in horticultural sciences, Sutton is a licensed Professional Landscape Architect in Florida and an ISA Certified Arborist. He is an active member of the International Society of Arboriculture.
