Becomes fifth HNTB leader to serve in the organization’s top elected role, helping advance transportation investment and industry priorities nationwide
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 1, 2026) – Tom O’Grady, president of HNTB, has been elected chair of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), becoming the fifth HNTB leader to serve in the organization’s top elected position.
As chair, O’Grady will help guide ARTBA’s efforts to advance transportation investment, strengthen infrastructure policy and promote safety throughout the transportation construction industry. He follows a distinguished line of HNTB leaders who have served in the organization’s top leadership role.

“Transportation has the power to connect communities, strengthen economies and improve quality of life,” O’Grady said. “Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work alongside clients, industry partners and colleagues committed to delivering infrastructure that creates lasting value. I look forward to working with ARTBA’s members and leadership to address the challenges facing our transportation system and pursue the opportunities ahead.”
An active ARTBA member for more than a decade, O’Grady has served in numerous leadership roles within the organization, including the Industry Leader Development Council, Strategic Planning Committee and Reauthorization Task Force, where he served as co-chair.
As chair, O’Grady said his priorities include advancing transportation reauthorization, promoting safety throughout the industry and strengthening ARTBA’s membership and collective impact.
“The transportation industry has an important opportunity to advocate for sustained investment while protecting the people who build, maintain and use our infrastructure,” O’Grady said. “By speaking with a strong, unified voice, we can strengthen the nation’s transportation system and deliver long-term benefits for the communities it serves.”
