30-year transportation veteran to help guide COMTO NY initiatives in 2025
NEW YORK (Jan. 15, 2025) – HNTB is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin R. Collins, HNTB’s New York office leader and senior vice president to the advisory board of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) New York Chapter. Collins’ appointment marks a significant milestone in HNTB’s ongoing commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within the transportation sector.
COMTO has worked to advance equitable opportunities and maximum participation for minority individuals, veterans, people with disabilities, women and disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs). COMTO’s mission is to ensure opportunities and maximum participation in the transportation industry for minority individuals, businesses, and communities of color through advocacy, information sharing, training, education and professional development.
“Kevin’s dedication to volunteerism and passion for our mission inspire great excitement, and we are confident that his expertise and insights will be instrumental in shaping our strategic direction,” stated Richard Watson, President of COMTO New York. “Kevin’s unique perspective and wealth of experience will bring significant value to our chapter’s efforts to enhance New York’s transportation network and provide inclusive opportunities for all.”
Collins leads a team of nearly 400 hundred multidisciplinary professionals who serve a diverse range of clients in the Northeast infrastructure sector. Prior to his role in New York, Collins led HNTB’s Washington State office, where he managed multibillion-dollar rail transit projects, including the East Link and Lynnwood Link light rail extensions in Seattle. Under his leadership, HNTB strengthened its work with local DBEs and small businesses that work with HNTB on major infrastructure projects for the region.
Collins is an active member of several civic organizations alongside COMTO including Women’s Transportation Seminar, American Council of Engineering Companies New York and the New York Building Congress where he serves as co-chair of the transportation and infrastructure committee. Through his volunteerism, Collins is dedicated to the importance of helping shape the future of the transportation industry and communities, focusing on inclusiveness and equitable opportunities.
HNTB is committed to diversity and inclusion and actively works with partner organizations such as COMTO to further these efforts. In recognition of its dedication, HNTB has been honored as Corporation of the Year by COMTO for two years in a row. The firm also most recently served as the Diamond sponsor at the COMTO New York Equity Thrives in New York Gala.
“By supporting organizations like COMTO, HNTB is not only enhancing transportation systems but also ensuring that all communities have a seat at the table when it comes to shaping the future of infrastructure,” said Collins. “I am proud to contribute my experience to COMTO’s important work in New York, and I look forward to working with this outstanding group of leaders.”
