Firm to provide design of a new terminal, airside and landside facilities to support ongoing growth in passenger traffic
DES MOINES (July 25, 2022) – The Des Moines Airport Authority has awarded HNTB a contract to provide design services for the airport’s improvement program, including a future terminal building that would replace the existing building.
“This is an exciting opportunity for us to partner with the airport on designing a facility that will be transformational in terms of passenger experience, efficiency and flexibility,” said Tom Rossbach, AIA, ACI, HNTB aviation architecture market sector director and project manager for the firm’s contract with Des Moines Airport.
In addition to the design of a new terminal, HNTB also will provide design of a new pedestrian bridge as well as a variety of landside and airside improvements. The phased improvement program expands capacity with a long-term goal of increasing to 17 gates to accommodate for on-going increases in annual passenger traffic.
“We look forward to continuing our working relationship at Des Moines Airport to help ensure this facility can best serve the airport’s growing needs, both in terms of operations and a smooth and seamless journey for travelers,” said Gretchen Ivy, PE, HNTB Central States office leader and vice president.
HNTB previously partnered with Des Moines International Airport on a planning study for a new terminal program.
