HNTB joins Salt Lake City International Airport in celebrating completion of The New SLC

Complex, multiphase redevelopment transformed airport infrastructure while maintaining continuous operations

SALT LAKE CITY – (Oct. 30, 2026) – HNTB joins Salt Lake City International Airport in celebrating this week’s opening of The New SLC Redevelopment Program, a milestone that marks the culmination of over 25 years of planning, design and construction to create a modern airport designed to serve Utah’s growing population and economy for decades to come.

The New SLC Redevelopment Program transformed Salt Lake City International Airport through a phased modernization that introduced new passenger facilities, airfield infrastructure, roadway improvements and transit connections while maintaining airport operations. The airport now features 94 aircraft gates, four hardstand positions and 101 concessions.

“The completion of Salt Lake City’s Airport Redevelopment Program represents years of collaboration, innovation and exceptional delivery culminating in a functional, beautiful, state-of-the art facility,” said Catherine Curtis, HNTB Mountain West office leader. “The airport provides a welcoming gateway for visitors, an improved experience for travelers and a foundation for the continued growth and prosperity of our community.”

As the program’s lead civil engineer and civil engineer of record, HNTB provided design, bidding and construction services for airport at-grade and elevated roadways, taxiways, aircraft ramp areas, sitewide utilities, aircraft fueling, airfield lighting, an underground passenger tunnel and the airport’s TRAX connection. Working alongside Airport Redevelopment Program (ARP) leadership, design architect HOK, airline stakeholders and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and project partners, HNTB developed coordinated construction phasing and utility sequencing strategies that advanced new infrastructure while maintaining airport operations throughout the multiyear program.

The airport commemorated completion of the redevelopment program during a celebration on October 24, recognizing a program that has been decades in the making.
