Firm providing contract administration and design and construction oversight services for transformative Lake Charles corridor project
Baton Rouge, La. (Apr. 30, 2026) – HNTB joined the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Gov. Jeff Landry, Federal Highway Administration Administrator Sean McMaster, Sen. Mark Abraham, Rep. Ryan Bourriaque, Calcasieu Parish Police Jury President Brian Abshire, Lake Charles Mayor Marshall Simien, Westlake Mayor Hal McMillin, project partners and key stakeholders to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Interstate 10 Calcasieu River Bridge Replacement Project. The project will replace the existing Calcasieu River Bridge and improve a 5.5-mile section of the I-10 corridor from Ryan Street in Lake Charles to the I-10/I-210 interchange in Westlake.
HNTB is supporting LADOTD with contract administration and design and construction oversight services for the project, which is expected to enhance safety, improve travel time reliability and strengthen connectivity along a critical freight and commuter corridor in southwest Louisiana.
“This milestone reflects a strong partnership with LADOTD and a shared commitment to advancing one of the most important transportation investments in southwest Louisiana,” said Dusty Bastion, PE, HNTB Gulf Coast office leader and vice president. “The I-10 Calcasieu project will strengthen regional mobility, support the efficient movement of people and goods, and deliver lasting value for the communities and economy it serves.”
The new bridge will be built north of the existing structure and is part of a broader corridor modernization effort that includes roadway, ramp, service road and interchange improvements. Project plans call for a new bridge with three travel lanes in each direction, auxiliary lanes, full shoulders, enhanced lighting and electronic tolling. The project also includes improvements at PPG Drive, Sampson Street and North Lakeshore Drive/Ryan Street, including elevating Sampson Street over the railroad tracks to eliminate train-related blockages.
“HNTB has supported LADOTD on this corridor for many years, and reaching this milestone reflects the sustained planning, coordination and technical effort behind a project of this scale,” said Ben Goodner, PE, HNTB design manager. “The I-10 Calcasieu project will deliver lasting benefits for the Lake Charles region and the state of Louisiana.”
The I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge Replacement Project is being delivered as a public-private partnership and is expected to be completed in 2031. Once complete, the new bridge and corridor improvements will support regional mobility, economic activity and long-term infrastructure performance along one of the Gulf Coast’s most important transportation routes.
