HNTB continuing active transportation scoping partnership with Minnesota Department of Transportation

Firm working alongside state DOT to address bicycle and pedestrian needs

MINNEAPOLIS (Oct. 20, 2022) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has selected HNTB to provide bicycle and pedestrian scoping recommendations for projects in its 10-year Capital Highway Investment Plan.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with MnDOT to help enhance bicycle and pedestrian mobility and improve safety,” said Sara Hage, HNTB Minnesota office leader. “This program is essential to ensuring a fully cohesive transportation network that meets the needs of the project communities.”

The program supports MnDOT’s vision for a multimodal transportation system and works together with the Complete Streets Policy, the Environmental Planning and Design Unit, and others to create projects that include safe and comfortable facilities for all users.

HNTB developed the scoping program alongside MnDOT in 2018 to review bicycle and pedestrian needs during the project development process so that recommendations can be incorporated with other project needs. With this contract HNTB also teams with Isthmus Engineering, a DBE firm located in the Twin Cities.

“By considering all users during the project planning stages, we are better able to offer transportation solutions for everyone and benefit the entire community,” said Maria Donnelly, PE, HNTB project manager.

HNTB delivers engineering, planning and program management and construction oversight for transit, bridges, roadways, highways, airports and more to clients throughout Minnesota and the U.S. HNTB has worked on, or is currently involved with, some of the most high-profile infrastructure projects in Minnesota including the Third Avenue Bridge, Gold Line BRT, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Light Rail Transit Tunnels and Lindbergh Station, Southwest LRT and the I-494 Bridge over Minnesota River.
