HNTB has supported Corridor development for more than a decade as technical and financial advisor, helping advance the project from early planning through delivery
CINCINNATI (May 11, 2026) – HNTB joins the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and regional partners in celebrating the groundbreaking of the Brent Spence Bridge companion bridge, a major milestone for one of the largest and most transformative infrastructure projects in the United States.
The Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project will modernize a critical segment of the national transportation network, reconstructing and upgrading Interstate 71 and Interstate 75 in both Ohio and Kentucky while adding a new companion bridge over the Ohio River. The improvements are designed to enhance safety, reduce congestion, improve freight reliability and support long-term economic growth across the region.
“The Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project is one of the largest in Ohio history,” said Tommy Arnold, Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project manager for ODOT. “It is a massive undertaking that our region desperately needs. We appreciate all the expertise and assistance of HNTB.”
“As we celebrate the groundbreaking of the transformational Brent Spence Bridge Corridor, we recognize HNTB as an integral partner in reaching this milestone,” added Stacee Hans, Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project manager for KYTC. “We look forward to their continued support as we deliver this vital infrastructure for the citizens of the Commonwealth.”

HNTB’s Sarah Lee
HNTB has supported ODOT and KYTC for more than a decade as a trusted technical and financial advisor, helping advance the $4.39 billion Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project from early planning through delivery. The firm provided technical, financial and delivery oversight; evaluated design and governance options; supported federal grant applications that secured more than $1.6 billion in funding; and developed the Supplemental Environmental Assessment, traffic analysis and public outreach. HNTB continues to support the project under its progressive design‑build delivery, providing program management, grant compliance, NEPA compliance oversight, public outreach, pre‑construction services and PDB contract oversight as the project moves into construction.
“The Brent Spence Bridge project represents years of collaboration and vision by our public-sector partners,” said Sarah Lee, Ohio office leader and vice president at HNTB. “We are proud to stand alongside ODOT and KYTC as they move this once-in-a-generation investment into construction. HNTB’s team is honored to have played a role in helping turn this critical bridge from a long-discussed need into a tangible reality for the region.”

HNTB’s Erica Johnson
The initial phase of the Brent Spence Companion Bridge project focuses on utility relocation, traffic reconfiguration and site preparation needed to safely launch full bridge and roadway construction. Early work includes temporary ramp installations, infrastructure upgrades, selective demolition and preparation for river-based foundation construction. Together, the improvements will strengthen mobility, improve safety and enhance the efficiency of commerce along the I‑71 and I‑75 corridors.
“HNTB’s long-standing partnership with ODOT and KYTC reflects our shared commitment to delivering infrastructure that serves communities today while preparing for future growth,” said Erica Johnson, HNTB project manager and vice president. “This groundbreaking is an important step forward, and we look ahead with pride to supporting the successful delivery of this nationally significant project.”
