Anne Sheahan named Illinois office leader at HNTB

Experienced transportation and civic leader to guide strategic growth and client service across Illinois

CHICAGO (June 3, 2026)HNTB has named Anne Sheahan Illinois office leader and vice president. In her new role, Sheahan will oversee operations, strategic growth and client service for the firm’s Illinois office while continuing to support transportation and infrastructure initiatives throughout the state.

Since joining HNTB in 2021, Sheahan has helped strengthen the firm’s relationships with public agencies and stakeholders across Chicago, including the Chicago Department of Transportation, the Chicago Department of Aviation and the Chicago Transit Authority. She has provided strategic leadership on major transportation programs and has supported business development efforts that position the firm to address clients’ evolving infrastructure needs.

Sheahan joined HNTB after more than two decades of public service and leadership experience in Chicago. Prior to joining the firm, she served as first deputy chief of staff for the City of Chicago, where she helped lead strategic initiatives involving infrastructure, transportation, regulatory and administrative services. During her tenure with the city, she also served as deputy mayor for infrastructure and services, deputy chief operating officer, managing deputy director of dispatch operations for the Office of Emergency Management and Communications, and chief of staff for the Department of Streets and Sanitation.

“Transportation infrastructure plays a vital role in connecting communities and supporting economic opportunity,” Sheahan said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead our Illinois office and work alongside our employee owners and clients as we deliver projects and programs that improve mobility and invigorate communities throughout the state.”

Sheahan serves as vice chair of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications and American politics from St. Norbert College and a Master of Arts in urban affairs from Loyola University Chicago.

HNTB’s Illinois practice supports clients in the planning, design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects across the state, including highways, bridges, transit systems, aviation facilities and major capital programs.
