Alexa Gangemi of HNTB named 2025 Member of the Year by WTS International

HNTB leader recognized for dedication to the goals and growth of women in transportation  

NEW YORK (April 15, 2025) – HNTB is proud to announce Alexa Gangemi, vice president and senior project manager, has been named the 2025 WTS International Member of the Year. This prestigious award is presented to a WTS member who demonstrates exceptional dedication to advancing the organization’s mission and fostering its continued growth. Gangemi’s recognition reflects her exemplary leadership, commitment to excellence and significant contributions to empowering women in the transportation industry.

“Alexa’s advocacy in promoting the association within the transportation sector, and her leadership in revitalizing and expanding her Chapter’s initiatives embody the very essence of this award,” states Bridgette Beato, Board Chair of WTS International. “Through her efforts, she has strengthened our network, inspired others and significantly contributed to the advancement of women in transportation.”

Gangemi has been an active member of WTS for more than 17 years, currently serving as director for the WTS International Board from 2024-2026. She previously served as treasurer for the WTS International Board from 2022-2024 and has also served in various committee and board roles for the Greater New York Chapter, including president from 2018-2019, as well as in roles supporting multiple WTS national conferences.

At HNTB, Gangemi works with different teams to deliver critical transportation infrastructure projects. Her expertise helps organizations identify, select and implement technology to improve their operations and processes, with a focus on fare payment systems. She works with some of the top transportation agencies delivering transformational projects. She has made deep connections across the industry which have directly benefited WTS’ programming and the advancement of its members.

Gangemi is a distinguished alumna of Cornell University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she completed her master’s in engineering. WTS International will recognize Gangemi at their 2025 WTS International Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada on May 7-9.
