The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Electric Vehicle Mobility Plan, an important element to Pennsylvania’s state EV infrastructure strategy, serves as a five-year strategy for PennDOT to support the expansion of electric vehicles throughout the state.

HNTB led the development of the statewide Electric Vehicle Mobility Plan, which is being incorporated into the state’s EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan, a requirement to receive funds from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program.

Understanding other states’ EV strategies as well as U.S. EPA and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory best practices, HNTB incorporated best-in-industry information within the plan.  In addition, HNTB assessed industry trends and technologies and developed a process to estimate air quality to forecast expected benefits from EV adoption.

Although the focus of the plan was on light-duty vehicle charging for long-distance travel, HNTB also explored medium- and heavy-duty charging, emergency travel and commuter travel.
