Nationally recognized expert in dam and levee safety to support flood risk reduction and geotechnical innovation across complex civil works projects
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 14, 2025) – Glen Bellew, PE, has joined HNTB as a senior technical advisor. He brings more than two decades of geotechnical engineering experience, with deep expertise in dam and levee safety, flood risk reduction and complex civil works projects.
Prior to joining HNTB, Bellew served as the dam and levee safety program manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Northwestern Division, where he provided technical and policy guidance across five districts spanning the Missouri and Columbia River basins. His leadership helped shape national policy through active roles on the USACE Levee Safety Steering Committee and Dam Safety Steering Committee.
“Glen’s technical depth and policy insight make him an exceptional addition to our team,” said Gretchen Ivy, PE, HNTB’s Central States office leader and senior vice president. “His experience with high-hazard dams, urban levee systems and flood rehabilitation projects will strengthen our ability to deliver resilient infrastructure solutions for our clients.”
Bellew’s career includes oversight of multimillion-dollar programs involving more than 50 federal levees and 18 high-hazard dams. He has led engineering efforts on major projects such as the seismic stabilization of Tuttle Creek Dam, the Kansas City Levees program and levee rehabilitation following the 2011 and 2019 Missouri River floods. His work has advanced the state of practice in relief well design, seepage control and risk-informed decision making.
Bellew holds a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a registered professional engineer in Missouri.
