Veteran leader in historic preservation brings more than 35 years of project management and delivery expertise
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Oct. 8, 2025) – Kristen Zschomler, RPA has joined HNTB as project manager, bringing more than 35 years of experience in historic preservation, regulatory compliance and infrastructure project delivery. In her new role, Zschomler will collaborate with federal, state and local partners to help shape and deliver some of the region’s most transformative infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet today’s needs while honoring their historical significance.
“Kristen’s deep command of regulatory frameworks and historic preservation methodologies will enhance our ability to deliver infrastructure projects that are both compliant and contextually sensitive,” said Sara Hage, AICP, ASLA, HNTB’s Minnesota office leader and vice president. “Her technical leadership will be critical in navigating complex environmental reviews and integrating preservation standards into modern transportation solutions.”
Zschomler is widely recognized for her ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and oversee the rehabilitation of historic bridges, public spaces and transportation corridors. She also has led professional training programs to promote best practices in preservation and compliance across the industry.
Zschomler holds a master’s degree in anthropology from the University of Alabama and dual bachelor’s degrees in history and anthropology from the University of Minnesota. She is a Registered Professional Archaeologist, and an active member of the Minnesota Society for Architectural History and the Transportation Research Board, where she previously served on the Historic and Archaeological Preservation Committee.
