When the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority expanded bus rapid transit service to Troost Avenue, HNTB provided planning, alternative analysis, environmental and design services. The project’s scope included station platforms, shelters and technology amenities, public art, landscaping, two transit centers and two park-and-ride lots along the 10-mile route.
One of the key features of the Metro Area Express or MAX is its distinctive stations, designed in concert with the existing Metro bus system, yet they clearly identify the new service. Sustainable station elements include rain gardens, low-voltage LED lighting, solar-powered light bollards and site furnishings with wood components from sustainable sources.
The MAX provides fast, frequent and convenient service and features the latest technology in the transit industry.
