NEW YORK (April 8, 2019) – Alexa Gangemi, PMP, joined HNTB Corporation as a transit/rail senior project manager and associate vice president, based in the firm’s New York City offices. Gangemi has more than 20 years of experience working with systems technologies such as fare payment, crew management, and asset management.
In addition to managing existing transit/rail projects in the New York area, Gangemi also works with clients to identify, select and implement new technologies that help support business process improvements.

Gangemi’s extensive experience includes work with transit agencies in Texas, Virginia and Maryland, in addition to New York. Her background encompasses the implementation of technologies used for fare collection, rail crew management, dispatching and timekeeping processes.
Gangemi also served the commuter rail operator for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority as director of strategic planning.
A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering, Gangemi also holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Cornell University. She is the current Greater New York chapter president of the Women’s Transportation Seminar; she also served as 2017 chair of the WTS annual national conference.
HNTB plays an integral role in many of the region’s most important infrastructure programs, including construction manager for renewal and rehabilitation of multiple station facilities for New York City Transit; program manager for New Jersey Transit’s implementation of Positive Train Control technology; owner’s engineer for the New NY (Tappan Zee) Bridge; lead structural designer of the Kosciuszko Bridge; technical consultant for the Goethals Bridge replacement project; and the general engineering consultant for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, among others.
