The magazine’s 16th iteration of its signature recognition program spotlights Kara Komp and Fiona Wu as individuals pushing the transit industry forward
Mass Transit has named Kara Komp and Fiona Wu as two of its 40 Under 40 honorees for 2024.
Mass Transit is a publication dedicated to North American public transportation. The 40 Under 40 recognition highlights young professionals that are making significant contributions to the transit industry and who will be carrying the industry into the future. The magazine’s evaluation committee assessed more than 120 nominations for this round of awards.
Komp is based in Chicago and leads the largest project in Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) history — the Red Line Extension. She is leading the project through the Capital Investment Grants New Starts program, which requires CTA to navigate a complex multiyear, multiphase process to secure billions in competitive federal grant funding.
“Kara is so deserving of this industry recognition,” said Albert Sosa, HNTB Chicago office leader and senior vice president. “We are glad to see Kara continue to grow and shape the transit industry toward a better future.”
Wu is a zero-emissions implementation project manager in the Los Angeles office who has been instrumental in leading mass transit electric vehicle transportation projects. Wu has worked closely with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority, Utah Transportation Authority and CapMetro to develop their bus transition strategies.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Fiona,” said Yoga Chandran, PhD, PE, GE, HNTB Los Angeles office leader and senior vice president. “We are so proud to see her leadership within the zero-emissions space recognized by the transit industry.”
