HNTB’s John Barton to join elected officials and national leaders in call to improve infrastructure resiliency

Barton to speak on topic of resiliency as part of ASCE’s 2021 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 26, 2021) – John Barton, PE, senior vice president for HNTB Corporation, will join a distinguished panel to discuss “Spotlight On Resilience: How to Build Back Better” as part of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Solutions Summit on March 3. The summit will convene following the announcement of ASCE’s 2021 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure, the quadrennial assessment which grades the condition and performance of 17 categories of infrastructure.

Barton, who serves as HNTB’s professional services chair, national Department of Transportation market sector leader and interim national bridge leader, will join three other industry experts in a discussion on how to build back better within the confines of existing rules and regulations; what is needed to help communities adapt; and how technology can facilitate a more efficient recovery.

“Natural disasters continue to strike while the nation is dealing with the impacts of a global pandemic. The human toll is enormous. The price paid by the economy, our transportation system and other infrastructure is, too,” said Barton. “But our infrastructure hasn’t changed. It is still crumbling and is inadequate to handle the stresses of emergencies and disasters reliably and equitably. The path to resilient infrastructure starts with a level of investment in our infrastructure that allows us to better prepare for the life-changing events to come so that our systems can better handle high-stress situations while protecting family, friends and neighbors in our communities.”

The Solutions Summit program also includes sessions on energy infrastructure, risk for aging dams and levees, transportation innovation, water partnerships, and inland waterways and ports. Register at
