CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Nov. 30, 2020) – HNTB Corporation is celebrating its 20th year in the Charlotte region. For two decades, the firm has maintained an office in Charlotte to support state and local transportation agencies and other public and private clients in delivering mobility solutions that power local economies and strengthen communities.
In 2000, HNTB acquired a small urban planning and design consultancy in Charlotte. Since taking on its first project, the Center City Transportation Plan, the office has grown to a peak of more than 50 multi-disciplinary professionals downtown at Bank of America Plaza over the last five years.
Significant contributions to the Charlotte region’s transportation system include serving as construction manager for Charlotte Area Transit System’s LYNX Blue Line Extension, designer and construction manager for Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s Elevated Roadway and general engineering consultant for the North Carolina Turnpike Authority’s Monroe Expressway. The firm also is actively collaborating with regional organizations such as the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance and the Hospitality and Tourism Alliance to support future transportation initiatives, such as the city’s transportation bond campaign which seeks to raise awareness of the role local investment plays in delivering needed transportation infrastructure.
“Maintaining the quality of life and economic competitiveness that make the growing Charlotte region such a great place to live and work will continue to demand a robust, multi-modal transportation network,” said Greg Boulanger, PE, vice president, HNTB. “We’re proud of our 20-year legacy in the region and look forward to continuing our close collaboration with clients and the community to improve mobility, especially as they seek to regain momentum and accelerate recovery from the pandemic.”
In addition to critical transportation projects, HNTB employees in Charlotte support many industry and civic organizations, including the Carolinas Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies, North Carolina Institute of Transportation Engineers, American Society of Highway Engineers, the Carolinas Aviation Museum, Women’s Transportation Seminar, the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance and the Hospitality and Tourism Alliance.
HNTB’s commitment to helping the region prosper also is reflected in the firm’s growth. HNTB seeks talented professionals to work on major programs in aviation, roadways, tolling and intelligent transportation systems.
