More than 65 people with 26 firms attended the event to discuss potential teaming arrangements for upcoming projects
DENVER (Aug. 23, 2021) – Stemming from its commitment to engaging with diverse and underutilized partners, HNTB’s Denver office recently hosted a networking event for minority- and women-owned enterprises and disadvantaged businesses in the area.
More than 65 people with 26 firms attended the event. HNTB staff facilitated introductions between the firm and various agencies, identifying synergies between the service needs of its clients and the expertise of the people in the room. Specifically, this networking event resulted in discussions about upcoming opportunities and potential teaming arrangements for forthcoming projects with Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Denver International Airport, and the Regional Transportation District.
“It is a priority for HNTB to uplift minority- and women-owned firms by sharing our expertise and wide network of connections to help these businesses access new opportunities,” said Reza Akhavan, PE, Colorado practice leader and vice president at HNTB. “Our goal is to build multifaceted teams that represent the essence of diversity, inclusion and equity, and meet our clients’ expectations in planning, designing and delivering outstanding projects. This event signifies a critical step forward in an ongoing company initiative and dialogue, and reaffirms our commitment to helping build much needed resource capacity in our local Denver community.”
Over the years, HNTB has partnered with multiple agencies in Colorado and the Denver area. The firm provides design services for Concourses A and B West for the Concourse Renewal Program at Denver International Airport. HNTB also served as the design and construction manager on the Denver International Airport Program Management Team for the $544 million Hotel and Transit Center.
Recently, Airports Council International-North America recognized HNTB as a Champion of Inclusion.

- The HNTB Partners Program. Created more than a decade ago, this program focuses on helping disadvantaged, minority-owned and women-owned businesses expand their relationship networks so they yield more opportunities to work on transportation projects across the country.
- DirectEmployers Association. Through this nonprofit organization, HNTB posts open positions on more than 250 state and local diversity job boards and partners with historically Black colleges and universities on 26 outreach programs to help build a more diverse workforce.
HNTB is active in industry organizations, including the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, Airport Minority Advisory Council, Women’s Transportation Seminar, Society of Women Engineers and the National Society of Black Engineers. HNTB is also heavily involved in STEM education programs across the country.
