Award recognizes outstanding women in transportation
ARLINGTON, Va. (Dec. 8, 2020) – Cherie Gibson, Mid-Atlantic communications director, was named Member of the Year by WTS-Washington, D.C. The annual award acknowledges women who have made extraordinary contributions to the WTS-DC chapter. Gibson will be recognized tonight at the WTS-DC Annual Holiday Party and Awards program, which is being held virtually.
“Big congratulations to Cherie for this well-deserved recognition,” said Nick Antonucci, PE, senior vice president and office leader for HNTB’s District, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia region. “She is an outstanding mentor for young women entering the transportation industry and also to her clients and colleagues through her professionalism, commitment and selfless contributions to WTS-DC and other community organizations.”
Gibson serves as the corporate relations and program sponsorship chair at WTS-DC, leading the chapter’s efforts to broaden regional industry participation in its work to support women in transportation through professional opportunities, networking and educational programs. WTS chapters nationwide are dedicated to equity and advancement of women in the industry.
“It is an honor to be recognized by WTS-DC,” said Gibson. “I’m proud to volunteer my time in support of an organization that has made a powerful impact on my career journey and know that my work is making the same difference for other women in this exciting field.”
Gibson has worked in transportation for more than 20 years supporting the delivery of some of the region’s most significant transportation projects, including the 11th Street Bridge and Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in D.C., and 395 Express Lanes and VDOT Toll Relief in Virginia.
Other WTS-DC award recipients tonight include Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (Rosa Parks Diversity Award winner) and Federal Highway Administrator Nicole Nason (Woman of the Year).
