U.S. 90 Bridge Across St. Louis Bay
U.S. 90 Bridge Across St. Louis Bay

Hurricane Katrina’s 28-foot storm surge devastated the original U.S. 90 bridge across St. Louis Bay, destroying a critical social and economic link between the communities of Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis, Miss. Damage assessment, design and construction on the $267 million replacement bridge were expedited through design-build so that two lanes could open in May 2007, less than 15 months after design began. All four lanes of the 2.1-mile structure opened to traffic in January 2008, just 18 months after construction began, reviving small businesses and reconstruction efforts across the region.
