HNTB is currently working on the structural and architectural design for Phase I of the Combined Arms Collective Training Facility (CACTF) at Fort Irwin, CA. Phase I involves the construction of 41 buildings and has an estimated construction cost of $12 million. HNTB’s plan is to create buildings with modular construction, similar to a “kit of parts,” so that structures can be erected quickly, efficiently and economically. This concept makes it easier to maintain the existing facility when building parts become damaged during an exercise and need repair/replacement before the next “rotation” of troops. The concept of modular construction also allows for the reconfi guration of many structures/entities to make training at this site a new experience every time an individual attends an exercise there. HNTB will use these building techniques utilizing nearby concrete resources and manufacturing facilities, to control the total project cost.
