Land Use Controls/Development Plan For North Severn, Naval Support Activity
Land Use Controls/Development Plan For North Severn, Naval Support Activity

The main goal of this project is to provide an overall comprehensive Land Use Controls / Development Plan the entire area. The Plan will identify areas where development is not recommended due to environmental, archeological, cultural, wetlands, topography, safety, rifle range danger zones concerns, etc. Areas currently planned for future development will be identified as well as areas with no future plans. For the last hundred years, the property was used for various military operational and recreational functions, serving at one time as the primary hub for naval radio communications during WWI and WWII. As part of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem, the site is part of the largest estuary in the United States. Meeting the Naval Academy’s long-term needs for growth, the plan includes bachelor’s quarters, a new hockey arena, indoor/outdoor tennis center, a marina, conference and lodging center, recreation facilities, a day school, facilities and fields for outdoor club and intramural sports, and an interpretive nature and cultural resources center.
