HNTB has a 30-year history with Kansas City’s convention facilities. Most recently, HNTB designed a new 40,000-SF ballroom that has been LEED® Silver certified, along with extensive renovations to the facilities’ existing meeting rooms. HNTB also prepared a master plan and urban design guidelines to guide long-term growth. For a 1994 expansion, HNTB designed the 670,000-SF exhibit hall expansion that features air-rights construction and a dramatic cable-stayed roof. Recognized by Convene magazine as one of the “Top 10 High-Tech Convention Centers”, the completed ballroom is part of an overall strategy to increase the quantity and quality of space to host large banquets and meetings.
