The 450-foot structure spans the Oostanaula River and connects The Forum, a civic center in downtown Rome, Georgia, with trails, parking and recreation facilities in the newly developed West Third Street area on the river’s west bank. HNTB was responsible for complete design services on the $2.8 million project, including concept development, preliminary and final design, production of contract documents, permitting and construction phase services. The bridge design incorporated Rome’s rich history, as it includes imported iron railing and light fixtures to maintain a Roman theme. The bridge’s dedication to a Chief of the Cherokee Nation also serves as a connector between past and present generations of Romans.
