HNTB was the design architect for a new 980,000-SF terminal complex: a main landside terminal, an airside concessions core, two concourses, a pedestrian bridge, and a 3,200-car parking structure. Fully replacing the old terminal, the new construction is three times the size of its predecessor. The design blends Chicago’s architectural history with the surrounding urban fabric. A nine-phase construction plan ensured the facility consistently maintained thirty operational gates.
