Caltrain opened a Centralized Equipment Maintenance and Operations Facility near San Jose. HNTB served as the general engineering consultant, providing planning, design and construction management services to the project, which included a 22-acre site with service and inspection tracks, a train washer, fuel storage and other operations. The 58,000-square-foot maintenance building serves as a 24-hour, state-of-the-art repair shop for Caltrain’s 110 passenger cars and 29 locomotives and is expected to increase employee efficiency. Caltrain’s service runs from San Francisco to Gilroy, Calif., and has a growing average weekday ridership of more than 38,000 passengers.
