No such thing as a free road

Paul Yarossi, president HNTB Holdings Ltd, says, "The time for half-measures and band-aid solutions for our nation's transportation woes is long past. Whether Congress passes a long-term transportation vision or a short-term fix for the Highway Trust Fund, America must come to grips with the fact that the federal gas tax no longer provides enough money to reimburse states for road and bridge work already authorized. While the gas tax should be increased, in the long-term we need to look to other revenue sources, such as user fees, including tolls, and investments by the private sector."

Yarossi regularly contributes to a discuss about transportation issues on the National Journal Web site.
