KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 26, 2010) – Pete Rahn has joined HNTB Corporation as senior vice president and leader of the firm’s national transportation practice. In his new role, Rahn will develop and direct strategies that enhance HNTB’s service to state departments of transportation across the country.

Rahn comes to HNTB from the Missouri Department of Transportation, where as director, he led more than 6,000 employees responsible for providing a safe and efficient transportation system to the people of Missouri. He joined MoDOT in 2004, and previously held the post of cabinet secretary, New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department for seven years. Documented savings from the “practical design” program, implemented by Rahn at MoDOT in 2005, reach in excess of $500 million.

“HNTB continues to be an industry leader in professional services to DOTs, a national thought leader and an advocate for transportation,” said Ken Graham, chief executive officer, HNTB Infrastructure. “The high caliber of Pete’s experience will amplify the abilities and talent of our existing skilled team.”

In addition to his most recent work at MoDOT, he also brings insights from DOTs nationwide as well as knowledge of federal legislation and policy gained from his tenure as past president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, an organization that represents all state DOTs.

Rahn also is a past member of the AASHTO board of directors and was chair of the association’s standing committee on performance management. Additionally, he recently served on the executive committee of the Transportation Research Board.

Rahn has received the Lester P. Lamm Memorial Award in recognition of his outstanding public service, leadership and dedication to the nation’s highway transportation program. In 2009, Governing magazine named him as a “Public Official of the Year” for his positive impact on transportation.  On April 21, he accepted a “2010 Leadership Award” from the
