HNTB Corporation to continue design and construction support services for Long Beach Airport
Contract extended three years to reconstruct airport air carrier ramp

LONG BEACH, Calif. (March 23, 2010) – The City of Long Beach recently extended HNTB’s contract to provide as-needed airport planning, engineering and architectural consulting services for the reconstruction of the entire air carrier ramp at Long Beach Airport.
“In addition to replacing the aging pavement, the new developments will enhance the safety of the airport by improving drainage and providing a better surface for passenger traffic,” said Steve Stroh, HNTB project manager for the reconstruction project.
HNTB will provide design and construction support services for the four-phase project which consists of the reconstruction of 10 existing aircraft parking positions; the addition of two new aircraft parking positions; regrading the ramps; and improving drainage to meet National Fire Protection Association standards.
“All of the improvements are aimed at accommodating the aircraft and passenger demand at Long Beach Airport,” Stroh said.
The construction of Phase 1 and the design of Phase 2 currently are underway. Completion of all four phases is scheduled for December 2012.
