HNTB Architecture brings key hires to Los Angeles office
Professionals join the local team to serve current and future clients needs
LOS ANGELES (February 10, 2010) – HNTB Architecture has added more than 25 professionals to the staff of the firm’s Los Angeles office over the last six months. Each of these individuals bring with them notable experience and ability in their respective positions. According to Robert Newsom, FAIA,vice president and Los Angeles office leader, “HNTB Architecture is honored to have these talented individuals join the firm. Their presence will help the firm meet its growth objectives for current and future work.” The growth has been fueled by several new projects in California, including the Tom Bradley International Terminal expansion, San Diego International Airport terminal expansion, All Sports Building at University of Southern California, Memorial Stadium renovation at University of California, Berkeley, and the new 49ers Stadium.
Lanson Nichols, RA, vice president, has relocated from the firm’s Kansas City, Mo. office to the Los Angeles location. Nichols, a sports architect, has more than 20 years of experience. Projects include Memorial Stadium renovation at University of California, Berkeley; Denver Broncos’ INVESCO Field at Mile High; Oracle Arena renovation and the Oakland Coliseum renovation, both in Oakland, Calif.; Daytona Speedway renovation; Las Vegas Convention Center and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum renovation.
Nichols is currently serving as the project director for the new 49ers Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The new 68,500-seat, open-air stadium will create a venue featuring seating for two-thirds of fans in a large lower bowl. The stadium also features a vertical suite tower stacked entirely on one side of the stadium, elevated promenades and wide concourses with views of the action on the field from every level, diverse dining options, team stores, club lounges and a green roof.
Gordon Phillips AIA, LEED®AP has joined the firm as a senior project manager for the Los Angeles office. Phillips, an aviation specialist with over 25 years of experience, has worked at several airports around the world, including London Heathrow, San Francisco International Airport, Oakland International Airport, Berlin Schöenefeld Airport, Sea-Tac Airport, Denver International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. He has given numerous presentations on Sustainable Design of Airports and recently worked on a white paper for the USTDA on Best Practices for Sustainable Design of Chinese Airports. Since joining HNTB, Phillips has been serving as senior project manager for the San Diego International Airport terminal expansion project. The terminal expansion consists of 430,000-square-feet of new public and non-public areas, and will provide 10 additional contact aircraft gates while the airside pavement expansion will incorporate an area of 1.5 million square-feet including aircraft parking, aprons, taxiways and taxi lanes.
Francisco Owens, AIA has joined the firm as a senior project designer. Owens brings with him more than 13 years of architecture experience. His projects include Century Plaza Towers lobby and site remodel, Max at Kierland Office Building, Los Angeles City College Science Building and the new Technology Building at Los Angeles Harbor College. Since joining HNTB, he has been serving as a senior project designer on the All Sports Building at the University of Southern California. This 100,000 square-foot project includes student athlete academic services, sports medicine, football operations, football lockers, auditorium and conference rooms and a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning room.
The following senior project architects have joined the Los Angeles office of HNTB to work on the terminal planning and design for a new concourse and expansion of existing terminal facilities for the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport: Manoucher Eslami, AIA; David Graue AIA, LEED® AP; Gregory Hathaway; James Lemmon, AIA, LEED® AP; Lalida Nakatani, AIA; Janet Saavedra; and Laszlo Vito.
Bruce Weinstein, AIA, senior project architect, has joined the office to work on the San Diego International Airport terminal expansion project and Robert Jalilvand, AIA, NCARB, will work on the new 49ers Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
