Wen-Chi (Jim) Ku, Ph.D., PE, BCEE, a principal engineer in HNTB’s Water Services Group, has more than 37 years of environmental engineering consulting experience, specializing in wastewater treatment plant and collection system planning and design. He has participated in the planning, design and construction of more than 40 wastewater facilities and prepared more than 90 engineering study reports.
Ku has served as project manager for the city of Indianapolis’ wastewater projects since 1993. He currently serves as technical project manager on a mega project for the city of Indianapolis, which has a total estimated construction value of more than $100 million. He has extensive experience in biological and physical-chemical treatment processes, sludge handling, combined sewer overflow control, disinfection, odor control, nutrient removal and sewer system evaluation. He was the principal author of an EPA manual titled “Handbook for Sewer System Evaluation and Rehabilitation.”
Ku serves on the Awards Committee and Collection System Committee of the Water Environment Federation (WEF). He has served on the specialty conference subcommittee of WEF Collection System Committee since 2001, reviewing and selecting technical papers for conference presentation. He also is an American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE) Board Certified Environmental Engineer and a member of the Indiana Water Environment Association. He has published or presented 21 papers in technical journals and at professional association meetings.
Ku received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, a master’s degree in sanitary engineering from Harvard University and a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
