National Director of Design

Timothy G. Cahill, FAIA, NCARB, LEED AP, vice president and national director of design, based in the Kansas City office, is responsible for implementing national design programs and ensuring a consistent level of quality design for architectural projects across the firm. As a design principal, his award-winning work is recognized for its creative solutions to complex, aesthetic and economic design challenges.
Cahill served as the principle designer on the San Diego Airport Terminal Expansion, the Wichita Airport Terminal, the Toledo Arena and the University of Nebraska Football Stadium Expansion. Other significant projects include: Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois, Michigan Stadium expansion at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the San Francisco 49ers new stadium in San Francisco, INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver, the Chicago Midway Airport terminal and parking garage and the 1201 Walnut Office Tower in Kansas City, Mo.
Since joining HNTB in 1980, Cahill has received numerous honors and awards, including membership in the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows, the AIA Presidential Citation Award for Service to the Profession, and design awards of merit from the AIA/KC chapter for his work on a variety of Kansas City projects, including the Union Station restoration, Swope Parkway Health Center and Bartle Hall Convention Center. He is a member of the Kansas City, Kansas and Missouri chapters of the American Institute of Architects. He was awarded the HNTB Vision award in 2007.
Cahill holds bachelor’s degrees in architecture and environmental design from the University of Kansas and a master’s in architecture from the University of Illinois.
