Senior Structural Engineer

Michael Jones, PE, SE, associate vice president and senior structural engineer in HNTB’s Orange County office, is an expert in the use of ADINA software and has led seismic analysis efforts for high-profile bridge and tunnel projects such as the Tacoma Narrows Suspension Bridge, the Gerald Desmond Bridge, Devil’s Slide Tunnel, YBI Tunnel Seismic Retrofit and the Mary Avenue Pedestrian Bridge.
He currently serves as engineering lead for HNTB’s flagship tunneling project, Devil’s Slide Tunnel, where he supervised all structural design for the tunnel’s final liner and portals and conducted an independent check of the initial liner, which included sequential excavation modeling in PLAXIS software.
He has written many technical articles for publications and presentations on seismic analysis and design. He is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of California and the American Society of Civil Engineers and he is registered in civil engineering in California, Nevada and Arizona and in structural engineering in California.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in structural engineering from California State University.
