This project includes a new 70,000-SF terminal, restoration of an existing historic structure, and associated landside and airside improvements. Unique elements include relocation and rehabilitation of the historic 1942 terminal, LEED Gold certification, and a landscaped site and building scale that evokes the “Santa Barbara Experience.” The largest public project in Santa Barbara’s history, the new terminal blends with the area’s historic, Spanish Colonial Revival architecture while providing state-of-the-art systems and modern amenities.

The collaborative design process involved more than 50 public workshops and presentations with participation at every stakeholder level — from city agencies and community groups to the Federal Aviation Administration, the airlines and the Transportation Security Administration.
