Transportation and drainage expert Portia Gonzalez joins HNTB

Her experience includes some of the region’s largest and most complex highway and rail infrastructure projects

SANTA ANA, Calif. (March 9, 2017) – Portia Gonzalez, PE, joined HNTB Corporation’s growing Southern California team as project manager. She supports the Interstate 405 Improvement Project, and plays a key role to help grow the firm’s transportation practice. She is based in HNTB’s office in Santa Ana, California.

Gonzalez has over 25 years of experience in transportation engineering, predominately in drainage design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and storm water management. Her expertise also includes river modeling, floodplain delineation studies, water resource planning, sediment transport and project management.

Prior to joining HNTB, Gonzalez worked for another engineering firm as drainage project manager, where her responsibilities included managing drainage staff for highway and rail projects. Her experience encompasses I-405 Improvement (I-605 to SR-73 and SR-55 to I-5); I-10 HOV (L.A. County to Redlands Blvd.); High Desert Corridor, Gerald Desmond Bridge, California High Speed Train (San Jose to Merced and Merced to Fresno); and Foothill Extension Gold Line.

Gonzalez earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and a Master of Science in water resources from the California State University, Long Beach. She is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Environmental and Water Resources Institute and Women Transportation Seminar – Orange County.
