Nationally recognized environmental and planning expert Robert Conway joins HNTB

Conway brings executive leadership experience and NEPA expertise.

NEW YORK (June 20, 2019) – Robert Conway, PE, joined HNTB Corporation as Northeast Division environmental/planning practice leader and vice president. He is based in the firm’s Empire State Building offices in New York City.

“Rob is highly regarded for his leadership experience and technical expertise in conducting environmental and planning assessments for transportation infrastructure,” said Phil Brake, PE, HNTB’s Northeast Division president. “He is a significant asset to our team and will help our clients deliver transportation solutions that improve mobility and support a strong economy.”

With more than 37 years of experience, Conway is nationally known for his environmental/planning expertise. Prior to joining HNTB, he served as the environmental officer for Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Capital Construction and managed the environmental review of the Long Island Rail Road’s Mainline Expansion and the Second Avenue Subway Phase II projects, among others. While at another consulting firm, he managed the environmental review and approval process for more than $30 billion of major transportation projects. Among those projects are the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Northeast Corridor Portal Bridge, Long Island Rail Road East Side Access and the World Trade Center PATH terminal. He also has served on the White House Council on Environmental Quality examining improvements to the National Environmental Policy Act.

A professional engineer in New York and Connecticut, Conway is a graduate of Manhattan College and holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering and a bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) in civil engineering. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Transportation Research Board and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society.  Conway also served as a research assistant in water resources at Princeton University, where he received a university merit award.

Zakim Bridge in Boston and program manager for the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge replacement in Massachusetts, all-electronic tolling (AET) conversion projects in New Hampshire, program manager of the I-84 Mixmaster program, final designer for the Norwalk movable railroad bridge replacement in Connecticut, and general engineering consultant for the Maine Turnpike Authority.
